2015 Annual Training Institute, May 14, 2015

CCEH invites you to “Solving the Puzzle: Uniting Local, State, and National Efforts to End Homelessness,” the 2015 Annual Training Institute (ATI), Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, CT.

The CCEH ATI is Connecticut’s premier capacity-building event for organizations working to prevent and end homelessness.  The ATI features cutting-edge workshops and panel discussions led by prominent national, regional, and local leaders.  These sessions provide a forum for experts and practitioners to share research insights and views from the street level.  Researchers, direct service providers, and policy makers share in updates about best practices and new research to determine what works to end homelessness.  The ATI also offers an important opportunity for nonprofit providers, funders, and government partners to network and connect.

Iain DeJong, co-creator of the VI-SPDAT, will present the keynote for the 2015 ATI.  Iain is a self-described “playful nerd, hellbent on ending homelessness, increasing affordable housing, creating vibrant communities, and expanding the knowledge amongst leaders that influence social issues.”  Iain has held senior management and professional positions in government, non-profits, and the private sector, and has garnered dozens of awards for his work across Canada and internationally.  In 2009, Iain joined OrgCode as its President & CEO, and in 2014 assumed full ownership of the firm. He will share in his keynote address and ATI training sessions his wealth of experience and insights into how providers can coordinate efforts to end all instances of homeless across communities.

Workshop Tracks to Respond to the Challenges of 2015 and Beyond

This year’s ATI workshops will help attendees think critically about collaborative solutions to on-the-ground and policy-level challenges in their communities and across the state. As we continue to develop Coordinated Access in our provider networks across the state, we have ambitious goals to meet:  ending Veteran homelessness by 2015 and chronic homelessness by 2016.  At the same time, we want to set a path to ending all forms of homelessness by expediting the exit from homelessness to housing for all populations.

The 2015 ATI includes workshop tracks that offer diverse areas of learning for practitioners, community leaders, funders, developers, and people currently or formerly experiencing homelessness. Attendees receive invaluable information and training on topics including Rapid Re-housing, coordinated exit, and the VI-SPDAT.  This year’s ATI will also feature a special conference within a conference focusing on the unique needs of Connecticut’s homeless children and youth.  The ATI will provide an opportunity for providers to share important new information gathered during Connecticut’s first-ever statewide Homeless Youth Count, which CCEH and our community partners are conducting in January and February, 2015.

Tracks planned for the 2015 ATI:

It Takes a Village: Meeting the Educational and Service Needs of Homeless Children and Youth

This conference within a conference will focus on homeless children and youth – their legal rights, and the educational and community resources available to help them.

Coordinated Exit: Uniting Efforts to House Everyone Experiencing Homelessness

Now that Coordinated Access has been implemented, communities are focusing on the other side of the system – Coordinated Exit.  How do we build systems that move people through shelter and into permanent housing?

Zero: 2016 – CT & National Plans to End Veteran and Chronic Homelessness

CT could be the 1st state to achieve these goals.  Hear about the plans and strategies to get there with Zero: 2016.

Rapid Re-housing:  A Home for Everybody

Rapid Re-housing is an emerging best practice to move many people experiencing homelessness to housing.  What are the strategies that work?  What are we learning about effective interventions?

Powering the System:  Using the VI-SPDAT to Create a Shared Understanding of What Each Client Needs

Iain de Jong will explore the use of CT’s common assessment tool to coordinate from entrance to exit to end homelessness.

Empowering Clients As Partners to End Homelessness

Those we serve know best how to resolve their own experience of homelessness.   Learn about how to empower and motivate people to find solutions that work for them.
