Shelter diversion is a strategy that prevents homelessness at the front door by helping people facing homelessness identify immediate alternate housing arrangements and, if necessary, connecting them with services and financial assistance to help them return to permanent housing. Diversion programs can reduce the number of families and individuals becoming homeless, the demand for shelter beds, as well as the length program wait lists with little or no cost compared to other housing strategies.

In this training we explore several Diversion strategies, including conflict resolution, based on the innovative work of Ed Boyte from the Cleveland Mediation Center. Please note that this training draws from the diversion trainings held with Ed Boyte in February 2016 and this training will essentially review the same material
