Citizens Bank awards CCEH $15,000 for Point-in-Time Count

The Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness is pleased to announce that Citizens Bank has awarded a contribution of $15,000 to support the Point-in-Time Count.

January 9, 2017

The Point-in-Time (PIT) Count is a major national event in which volunteers in every state in the country turn out to conduct a one-night count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons. This is a one-night activity in which volunteers will meet at one of 20+ locations in Connecticut to canvas an assigned census block or set of census blocks and survey individuals or families experiencing homelessness.

Coordinated in Connecticut by CCEH in partnership with every homeless provider in the state, the Point-in-Time Count fulfills a central need for efforts to end homelessness by fulfilling HUD’s requirement that Continuums of Care conduct an annual count of homeless persons sheltered in emergency shelter, transitional housing, and Safe Havens on a single night, thus providing vital data to guide our efforts while also playing a key role in helping our state secure federal resources toward ending homelessness.

Citizens Bank employees will be joining the more than 300 volunteers throughout the state who participate in the count each year, and will help get the word out to others interested in joining in this important effort. The Point-in-Time Count is an opportunity for members of the general public to participate together in state-wide efforts to end homelessness.

“We are proud to support the CCEH Point-in-Time Count,” said Lisa Maass, president, Citizens Bank, Connecticut. “The updated knowledge we will gather will allow us to better direct our efforts to end homelessness in our community.”

“Citizens Bank has been an important player in CCEH’s efforts for some time, and we are both thrilled and grateful to have their leadership in this important effort,” said Lisa Tepper Bates, executive director of the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness. “On top of it all, this will be an historic year, as our state is close to ending chronic homelessness in our state,” continued Bates.

The Point-in-Time Count will take place on January 24, 2017. Those interested in signing up to volunteer can contact Jackie Janosko at jjanosko@cceh.org. For more information about Citizens Bank’s contribution, please contact Madeline Ravich at mravich@cceh.org.
